3 Easter Treats That Won’t Hurt Your Children’s Teeth

Rouhani-comfortPageEaster is upon us once and again, and just like with every other holiday that comes up these days, the marketing and hype seems to start just a little bit earlier than it did the year before. Of course, with Easter, it seems like the emphasis is placed more on the candy than almost any other holiday besides Halloween. Just stroll down the designated Easter aisle at your favorite shopping market and be ready to see an endless supply of sugary treats.

Everyone loves a good piece of candy now and then. It would be impossible to suggest that everyone passes through the Easter season without at least one jellybean or maybe a nibble of a chocolate bunny. However, parents are becoming increasingly aware of how dangerous it is to allow their kids to gorge on Easter sweets for days on end.

So what can you get your kids for Easter that is still fun, but not covered in enamel killing sugar? Here are some ideas on treats and prizes that any kids would love to find in their Easter basket this year:

Bubbles – Kids can literally entertain themselves for hours with bubbles. Smaller children often need their parents help making this a great treat that gets parents and kids playing together.

Fun Socks and Underwear – It can be surprising what kids get a kick out of these days. Matching Sponge Bob Squarepants socks and underwear might be a bigger hit than you would first think.

Easter Coloring Book and Crayons – Instead of watching your kids devour their basket of candy in a 30 minute sitting, give them an Easter coloring book and a small set of crowns and then pat yourself on the back when you are able to sneak in a Sunday afternoon nap while they are entertained coloring.

Movie or CD – For older kids who may not be keen to chasing bubbles around, get them something more age appropriate. CD’s may be outdated, so substitute with an iTunes card.

Play Dough or Finger Paints – Again, these types of gifts are not only still exciting to kids, but provide them with activities while you catch up from being up all night hiding eggs.

New Toothbrush and Toothpaste – You knew we would throw this one in, right? Still, kids not only love getting a new toothbrush, but they should be getting a new one at least 2-3 times a year. Find toothbrushes with their favorite cartoon character on it.

It may be impossible to completely remove candy from your Easter baskets this year, but hopefully you find a way to creatively avoid having a basket full of only candy. Keep in mind that, even when you are doing everything you can to prevent tooth decay or cavities in your children’s mouth, it can still happen.
